Beaglebone Black (BBB) Debian Root Password

BBB default debian image ships without a root password.  To create a root password:


  • sudo su
  • (enter debian password (temppwd))
  • passwd
  • (enter root password)
  • (repeat)
  • exit

    But the password created so is not working for ssh root@192.168.7.2.

    I am giving the response I got:


    sajeevank@sajeevank-Vostro-3559:~$ ssh root@192.168.7.2

    likely SSH permissions - I think root login is disabled by default. I'm not 100% sure, but it could be something to check.

  5. Hey, took me some time to figure this out. Had the same problem with my BBB. Here is the solution: You have to enable root access for ssh:
